How to Reach : Movement Planning in the Posterior
نویسنده
چکیده
Our results showed that the parietal reach region (PRR) represents potential reaches (spatial location and effector) before an arm or eye movement is instructed or chosen (Cui and Andersen 2007, 2011), whereas area 5d only represents reaches (spatial location and effector) once a reach has been selected (Cui and Andersen 2011). We proposed that at the level of PRR, potential and chosen reaches are represented, whereas area 5d is downstream and only represents chosen reaches. Another recent finding by Klaes et al. 2011 shows that PRR represents both potential and chosen reach goals, consistent with our results.

Neuronal synchronization in human posterior parietal cortex during reach planning.
Although single-unit studies in monkeys have identified effector-related regions in the posterior parietal cortex (PPC) during saccade and reach planning, the degree of effector specificity of corresponding human regions, as established by recordings of the blood oxygen level-dependent signal, is still under debate. Here, we addressed this issue from a different perspective, by studying the neu...
متن کاملCortical Local Field Potential Encodes Movement Intentions in the Posterior Parietal Cortex
The cortical local field potential (LFP) is a summation signal of excitatory and inhibitory dendritic potentials that has recently become of increasing interest. We report that LFP signals in the parietal reach region (PRR) of the posterior parietal cortex of macaque monkeys have temporal structure that varies with the type of planned or executed motor behavior. LFP signals from PRR provide bet...
متن کاملA Critical View on New Urbanism Theory in Urban Planning: From Theory to Practice
In the wake of Jacobs’s criticisms of planning, planners increasingly felt a level of angst over, or even responsibility for, the condition of the city. Schooled in preparing and implementing plans and land use regulations, they appreciated the appeal of a new movement that offered a simple, tangible, and marketable recipe for practice. New urbanism theory is one of the contemporary urban theor...
متن کاملHuman posterior parietal cortex encodes the movement goal in a pro-/anti-reach task.
Previous research on reach planning in humans has implicated a frontoparietal network, including the precuneus (PCu), a putative human homolog of the monkey parietal reach region (PRR), and the dorsal premotor cortex (PMd). Using a pro-/anti-reach task, electrophysiological studies in monkeys have demonstrated that the movement goal rather than the location of the visual cue is encoded in PRR a...
متن کاملPlanning Movements in Visual and Physical Space in Monkey Posterior Parietal Cortex.
Neurons in the posterior parietal cortex respond selectively for spatial parameters of planned goal-directed movements. Yet, it is still unclear which aspects of the movement the neurons encode: the spatial parameters of the upcoming physical movement (physical goal), or the upcoming visual limb movement (visual goal). To test this, we recorded neuronal activity from the parietal reach region w...
